The Saturn SC2 was an experiment by the US government to see what would happen if an American car copied a Japanese car. In this instance Saturn, a company known for turning used Sprite bottles in to economy cars, tried to emulate the 300ZX. The experiment was a failure and everybody involved with the program retired to "spend more time with their family."

They did make a pretty decent 80s Civic, however.

as the owner of a 99 saturn sc2 i can honestly say while its a cheap POS it does handle surprisingly well for an econobox and the 1.9L DOHC engine is very peppy when you ask it to. its extremely lightweight and tossable and the suicide half door actually makes it easier for rear passengers. and this summer if i still have it i definitely play on rallycrossing it

There's nothing I hate more than a Saturn. I don't know what it is, it's totally irrational, but I loathe Saturns.

My sister had an SL2, and I agree that those cars handled quite well. I also agree that it was quite peppy. It was the first car I rode in over 110 mph. Some asshole in a BMW cut off my sister and she decided to run him down.

We have a 2000 SL 2 sedan.....my dad bought it new, drove it until he passed away in 2010, I drove it for 3 years and now our son drives it.

Sounds like a warm family tradition, right?

It's a complete shit box.

Thing is, it gets great gas mileage, handle great, is good in the snow and still looks pretty good due to the plastic body panels and has been fairly reliable.

Having said that, every piece of interior trim vibrates and buzzes at different RPM ranges and loads and parts are starting to get expensive.

FYI, it's not a guarantee, but by your description the upper engine mount needs to be replaced. The rubber collapses after a few years, and leaves the engine to transmit vibrations directly into the chassis. The part is $80ish and takes all of 15 minutes to replace. Very common and could make your SL2 a lot more livable.
